Employment Options

As many of you know, I have a journalism background. So lately I've been thinking of a few "work-at-home" type writing options that could put a little spending money in my pocket. Here's what I've come up with so far:

1. Children's book author: I feel like I talk about this all the time. How hard is it to write a children's book though? It would take me about 3 minutes to write about a kitten playing with a ball, or a family of flowers eating dinner together. I'm pretty sure the illustrators of these books are the ones with tough job. Feel free to set me straight if I am wrong on this. If you are unsure about my opinion though, go read Goodnight Moon again.

2. Audio Book Reader: On two recent road trips I checked out some books on CD. The dude reading the book did a great job and had little voices for everyone so that you could tell the characters from one another. Sounds cheesy, but it was quite good. And this got me thinking, I could do that! I bet I could even record the books at home in my pajamas! Anyone have connections?

3. Church Sign Slogan Creator: Ok, so I don't think this is an official title... but you know what I mean. I could go around to different churches and put the little sayings on their signs. Like "When you fall down, the only way to look is UP." (FYI, I didn't make that one up but I can't think of any right this second).

4. Facebook Status Updater: People could pay me to update their Facebook for them. I could post their pictures for them and even message their second cousin for them to wish them a happy birthday. All for a small fee. What a deal! I could also do the same thing with craigslist and EBay... if you had something to sell, I could post it for you and monitor the offers and response. Then, I'll take a cut of the purchase price!

5. Soap Opera Recap Writer: If you go to any soap's website you'll see a daily recap. I could be that person who watches the soap and writes the recap. For example: Reva has Josh's baby and then shoots Josh's brother's wife who is really the half sister of Reva's father.

My mom and grandpa both used to read books on tape... mostly through schools and universities for blind people or those with learning difficulties. Maybe USC or some of the school districts have needs for that. I don't know if it pays, but it might be a start to your fabulous career as a book reader ;)

I vote on the church sign person. What about "Sign broken, message inside" baahahhahaha. That's one of my favs.

On a more serious note: there are a lot of companies who want to delve into the social networking world. you could totally work as a social networking manager for a local place. You could set up their FB, update their twitter page, add links to send people back to their website. You know, drive traffic. What what! How do you find out who needs this? Hmmm...maybe sign up on LinkedIn.

Good luck!
And P.S. you crack me up!
