Silent Night?

So here's a quick update on the sleeping situation with Hannah lately. For those of you who have been following along, you'll know that my precious daughter is not a big fan of taking naps... or sleeping in general. Lately I have been trying hard to get her to take naps and it's actually start to work ( I type this as I hear her in the monitor talking to herself when she is supposed to be asleep).

She sometimes takes 2 naps a day and goes down "for the night" at 7:30pm with little to no fuss. However, she still wakes up at least 2 times a night to eat. This is really starting to frustrate me. If any of you have any advice on how to wean her off of the middle of the night feedings, please let me know!

In other news, we threw a baby shower for our dear friends Emily and Craig on Sunday in Raleigh. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed seeing all of the "Good N Plenty" gang. I will post pictures as soon as I can swipe them off of other blogs of those who were there (hint, hint). Yesterday we went and met our new niece Lyla! She is very cute just like her big sister Claire.

Lake Lure 2009

We recently spent a week in Lake Lure. Apparently Hannah didn't get the memo that it was vacation time though:( We did get a lot of time to hang out and enjoy the mountains.

Here are some pictures I took to celebrate Hannah's 6-month birthday. I tried to do the artistic sheet thing as a backdrop and it didn't work out perfectly but at least the subject was a cutie!

Yum, yum, yum

The Weed.

Last week Todd and I decided to weed our yard. The picture below is of Todd holding a weed that he pulled. Yes, this is a weed, not a small tree:) The minute I pulled out the camera Todd said "you're not going to put this on the blog are you?". To which I answered, "Why else would I be taking a picture?". So, here you go! In our defense, this weed was growing against the side of the house that is fairly hidden from view. Still embarrassing though.

Random observations as of late

So it's been awhile since I've posted anything but pictures. Partly because I am extremely lazy and lacking in creativity... partly because I'm sure most of you would much rather look at pictures of Hannah than read commentary from me. Speaking of pictures of Hannah, I've got some good ones on the way.

For those of you who actually enjoy my musings, here are a few random things I have noticed in life lately (sidebar: have you ever noticed how often I use the word random? I really need to look up some synonyms for that word. Any ideas?)

Female dogs mark too. Lately on our walks around the neighborhood, Lilly has started marking the area. I never knew that female dogs did this. Not only does our precious pup mark trees and bushes and corners that other dogs have apparently visited, but I also caught her lifting a leg to do so the other day. Doesn't she realize that there is no need to do this? For three years she has been peeing outside and I've never seen her do this.

Facebook quizzes are a waste of time. I admit, I have never actually done a facebook quiz, but they all seem really silly to me. Sorry to offend any of you who do them. But, I have never really cared what kind of jungle animal I would be, or who is my celebrity look alike. I also never really want to know how well others know me. These quizzes are out of control. (For any of you who don't do facebook, you probably don't understand this point... and that's ok. However, I do recommend that you join facebook if you don't have an account. It gives you a chance to reconnect with people that you have gotten to know in all the different seasons of your life, and even if you don't really talk to them on the site, at least you can spy on them, look at their pictures and read what they are doing at all times)

Grunting is never ok, even if it's at the gym. So I joined a gym. I love this gym and I really have enjoyed going. Granted it's only been a week or so, but I am liking it so far. I have been working with a personal trainer and he has been teaching me how to work out. So the other day I'm "running" on the elliptical machine, watching the Today show, and minding my own sweaty business when across the gym I hear grunting. Keep in mind, I had on headphones so I could hear Matt, Meredith, Al and Anne plus there was music playing over the loud speaker, and still I could hear grunting. Across the gym, on the manly weight machines there was a very large man in a very small tank top grunting with each push up. Really? Do you really need to make that much noise? I get that you can lift heavy things, you don't have to make loud noises to prove it. Next week I'm going to go over to one of the benches and let out some loud groans as I lift the bar. Just the bar... not any weight added.

Nursery rhymes make no sense. I think I have blogged about this before. Not only do most nursery rhymes make no sense, but some of them are quite scary. For instance, how many kids are going to want to go fetch pails of water after finding out that Jack fell down and broke his crown last time he tried it? Not me! Or what about the crooked man who lives in the crooked house? I'm not cool with Hannah thinking it's ok to make friends with creepy old men.

My neighbor planted a butt in her yard. I'm not exaggerating and yes there will be pictures soon. The lady who lives in the house 2 doors down from us is very "artsy". She's been working hard in her front yard lately on what looked like a small little garden... at first. Todd and I were doing yard work the other day when another neighbor walked over and asked if we had seen the ass yet. Thinking she was referring to some kind of plant that I hadn't heard of, I asked her to explain. "She (the artsy neighbor) planted an ass in her front yard," she says, "it has a crack and everything." Sadly, I'm not lying or even fluffing this story up. The neighbor had planted flowers and other small plants in the shape of a butt in her front yard! I'm going to get a picture soon but I'm going to have to drag over a ladder to get up high enough where the entire rear can been seen in the image.

I think I'll leave you with that image. Have a good one!
